"The first section of Volume XVIIA includes an extensive description of various microbiological and genetic techniques that have become major tools in the study of amino acid metabolism in recent years. Since there has been a paucity of manuals giving specific details of these methods, we hope that the articles published here will be of considerable value. The remainder of the material is arranged in sections which are in a roughly alphabetical order: alanine to guanido compounds in XVIIA and the remaining amino acids and amine metabolism sections in XVIIB."
